This is a short version. The full Blaze guide — cast stainless burner service, heat plates, and warranty-safe care — is here: How to Clean a Blaze Grill.
To clean a Blaze grill, burn off the flame tamers and cooking grates on high for 10 to 15 minutes with the hood closed. Let everything cool. Wire-brush the outside of each cast stainless burner and clear any clogged port with a small metal pick. Empty the drip tray. Polish the stainless with the grain, never against it.
That is the whole job in four sentences. The rest of this page is the detail that keeps you from wrecking a good grill. Everything below follows Blaze’s own owner’s manual, which you can read for yourself here.
What does Blaze say to do after every cook?
Blaze is blunt about the drip tray. The manual says to clean it after each use and warns that failing to do so could result in a fire. That is not scare talk. Grease pools in the tray, and a hot grill gives it a reason to light.
So the after-cook routine is short:
- Brush the cooking grates while they are still warm.
- Empty the drip tray and wipe out the grease.
- Close the lid and shut the gas off at the tank or valve.
Two minutes. That habit does more for your grill than any deep clean.
How do you clean flame tamers and cooking grates?
Blaze’s method is a burn-off. Turn the main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes with the hood closed. Food bits and grease drippings burn away. Do the same for the cooking grates.
Then let it all cool completely before you touch it. Once cool, brush the heat plates and grates and rinse off the loose ash. A burn-off is not a deep clean. It cooks the loose stuff off. Baked-on carbon that survives it needs a scrub.
How do you clean Blaze cast stainless burners?
The manual says to use a wire brush on the outside of the burner and free any clogged ports with a small metal object. That is the right call. Ports are tiny. A blocked one gives you a weak flame or a flame that only lights part of the burner.
- Shut off the gas and let the grill cool.
- Lift out the grates and flame tamers.
- Brush the burner’s outer surface with a wire brush.
- Poke each clogged port clear with a straight pin or a small drill bit. Don’t enlarge the hole.
- Check that every port is open before you put things back.
The manual also says burner tubes must be inspected and cleaned before each use. Spiders and insects like those tubes. A web in the tube can block the gas, and Blaze treats it seriously enough to put it in all caps.
How do you clean the stainless without ruining it?
Blaze says to scrub and polish in the direction of the stainless steel grain, and to use a stainless steel cleaner on the outside surface. Go against the grain and you leave scratches that catch dirt and rust.
Skip steel wool and oven cleaner on the exterior. Use a soft cloth and a cleaner made for stainless. In our North Texas climate, rust specks near vents and seams show up first. Wipe those down often, and they will not spread.
Check the gas hose while you are in there
Blaze tells owners to look over the gas supply hose for cracks, cuts, or heavy wear, and to replace it if needed. Do it with the grill cold and the gas off. If the hose looks stiff, cracked, or chewed, stop and replace it before you fire up the grill again.
Where DIY stops
You can handle the after-cook routine, the burn-off, the burner brushing, and the stainless polish. Stop and call a pro if you see any of these:
- A burner that is rusted through, split, or flaking.
- Ports that stay blocked after you clear them.
- A gas smell you cannot explain.
- Grease baked on the firebox walls and the inside of the hood.
- A hose or regulator that looks worn.
A deep clean means pulling every part, soaking and scrubbing it, and putting it back right. That is what our grill restoration and deep cleaning service does. Prices are on our pricing page, and you can see all our BBQ grill cleaning services in DFW. If a burner is failing, our gas grill repair crew can look at it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a wire brush on a Blaze grill?
Yes, on the cast stainless burners. Blaze’s manual tells you to wire-brush the outside of the burner. Don’t use a wire brush on the stainless body panels. Use a soft cloth and polish with the grain.
How often should I clean my Blaze grill?
Clean the drip tray after every use, per the Blaze manual. Burn off the grates and heat plates regularly. Inspect the burner tubes before each use. Schedule a full deep clean once or twice a year if you cook often.
What do I do if my Blaze burner has clogged ports?
Turn the gas off, let it cool, and clear each port with a small metal object such as a pin or small drill bit. Do not widen the holes. If ports keep clogging, the burner may be worn out.
Why does my Blaze grill have a weak or uneven flame?
Blocked ports and webs in the burner tubes are the usual culprits. Clean and inspect both. If the flame is still off, a regulator or gas supply issue may be the cause, and that is a job for a pro.
Is it safe to clean a Blaze grill myself?
The surface work is fine for most owners. Gas parts, hoses, and regulators are different. If you smell gas or see damage, stop and call us.
